USDP violates campaign laws in Mandalay

The pro-government Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) opened offices across the country, with hundreds of supporters seen chanting and waving flags.

Footage captured by DVB journalists at the opening of the Mandalay office showed supporters decked out in USDP regalia and shouting victory slogans, as well as lauding the “multi-party elections” in a responsorial style led by a master of ceremonies on a nearby stage.

Shan party’s campaign blocked by EC

A Shan party registered for the upcoming elections in Burma has been blocked from campaigning for votes in the country’s eastern Karenni state.

The chairman of the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP), Sai Ai Pao, said that Central Executive Committee members on 28 July were denied entry to Loikaw, capital of Karenni state and near the border with Shan state. The group was blocked by the regional Election Commission (EC) secretary, he added.

UMFNP members intimidated in Bago region

The Union of Myanmar Federation of National Politics (UMFNP) party members were intimidated during party work in Poung Kyo village in Shwe Taung Township, western Bago region on 26 August.

UMFNP’s group led by U Kyaw Kyaw Lwin were intimidated by members of the Swan Arr Shin group when they were issuing party membership cards to members, U Aye Lwin, chairman of UMFNP party, said.

Citizens in Chin State told not to vote (မဲထည့္ခြင့္မရျခင္း)

According to media reports, eight nineteen year-olds in Chin State who had ID were told not to vote.

Elderly people forced to vote for USDP, SPDC threatens complaint-filers in Arakan State (ရခိုင္ျပည္နယ္တစ္ေနရာရွိ သက္ၾကီးရြယ္အိုမ်ား ၾကံ့ဖြံ႕ကို ၾကိဳတင္မဲေပးရန္ အတင္းအၾကပ္ေစခိုင္းခံရ၊ တိုင္ၾကားစာတင္သူမ်ားကို မယကမွ ျခိမ္းေျခာက္)

Advance votes were collected from elderly people following the order of WPDC and authorities cast the vote for USDP. Locals were told that they would be deadly punished if they didn't vote for the USDP. While collecting advance votes, elderly people were pressured by the force of officers to vote for USDP. When complaints about such cases were submitted to Election Commission, the WPDC threatened people that they would kill people who would file such complaints again.

USDP candidate bribed polling station officials and threated villagers in Arakan State (ၾကံ့ဖြံ႕ ကိုယ္စားလွယ္ေလာင္း ရခိုင္ျပည္နယ္တြင္ ျခိမ္းေျခာက္ျခင္း၊ လဘ္ထိုးျခင္းမ်ား ျပဳလုပ္)

Retired colonel Kyaw Khin, a USDP Township parliamentary candidate, offered monetary inducement to the head of polling station in charge to ensure that he would win the votes. He offered a thousand kyat to each of the teachers who were working as polling station officials. Kyaw Khin also collected about 400 advance votes from Muslim fishermen. He threatened villagers, stating that they would be in big trouble if they did not vote for him.

Residents said that some authorities had said they would stop the ongoing Rangoon-Pathain new railroad project at Pan Ta Naw Township, Irrawaddy Division because many voters in that area voted for National Unity Party (NUP) in the election.

Election officials in Mon State fail to provide for secret balloting (မဲေပးသူမ်ား၏ ကိုယ္ေရး အခ်က္အလက္ မွတ္တမ္းတင္ခံရ)

According to media reports, voters said their personal information was recorded at the polling station when election officials took note of their ballot paper's numbers during the 7 November election in Mudon Township, Mon State. They also said that authorities could easily know who voted for what by checking the numbers on each ballot paper and it was impossible to vote freely. The ballot paper's numbers and personal information including National Registration Card's (NRC) number were recorded in logbook of election commission.

Witnesses report USDP marking and collecting advance votes for USDP from sick and elderly in Mon State (ၾကံ့ဖြံ႔ကိုယ္တိုင္ ၾကိဳတင္မဲေကာက္)

According to media reports, residents in villages in Mudon and Thanbyu Zayat Townships, Mon State, claimed on 6 November USDP marked ballot papers for USDP when collecting advance votes from the sick and elderly.

Villages forced to spend as much as 200,000 Kyats for refreshments on election day / ေရြးေကာက္ပြဲေန႔ ဧည့္ခံေကၽြးေမြးေရး ေက်းလက္လူထု ေငြက်ပ္သိန္းခ်ီကုန္

The cost spent by the villages which had to take responsibility for the refreshment in Tantyan township, Northen Shan state were 200,000 Kyats from Lonmone village group, 40,000 from Hwaykyain village group, 180,000 from winemai village group, 200,000 from Homain village group, 170,000 from Naungkhan village group and 150,000 deom Narrlong village gorup.
