Former Ministry of Mining Lieutenant Colonel Ohm Myint, who will compete for the State Hluttaw (a parliamentary position) in Mudon Township, ordered a list collection villagers voting for the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP).

U Ohm Myint, the USDP candidate for Mudon Township State Hluttaw 1, ordered a collection of lists that detail the number of people within families, who are over 18 years of age, and will vote for the USDP.

A USDP member from Mudon reported, “[We] got a lot of lists. There were about 50,000 out of a population of 100,000 that will vote for the party.”

Burma’s supreme election authority is ignoring complaints about a pro-junta party that continues to campaign beyond the set deadline, an opposition party has said.

A candidate for the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), which is led by Burmese Prime Minister Thein Sein, was allegedly seen canvassing in several wards in Arakan state capital Sittwe in recent days.

The opposition Rakhine Nationalities Development Party (RNDP) said it had filed a complaint to the Election Commission (EC), which was hand-picked by the junta, who dismissed the claims.

The entire Burmese government machinery seems to have been mobilized to help the junta-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) win the elections slated for November 7.

For instance staff belonging to the education department has been campaigning in some village-tracts in Tha Hton and Beelin Township in Mon State. They have been urging locals to vote for the USDP, a person close to the staff members said.

Tensions are high in Arakan State as the pro-junta Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) seeks to marginalize the ethnic Rohingya party, the National Democratic Party for Development (NDPD), which is competing in the Nov. 7 election in several constituencies with high Muslim populations in the state.

New Delhi (Mizzima) – Most of the seven Chin interviewees from five townships in Chin State were uninterested in the forthcoming election, but would cast their votes for Chin ethnic parties, they told Mizzima.

The USDP Namkham Township organizing committee members led by U Chit Tin asked all civil servants in the township to vote for "lion" - the logo of USDP. They also took notes of civil servant ID numbers and home addresses in apparent intimidation, a civil servant said.

A resident, who was persuaded by USDP, stated that USDP members from Mongton Township in northern Shan State has been campaigning in Mongmaw Township starting from 14 July, by misusing the names of influential Palaung (Taaung) leaders in order to persuade voters.

Farmers from Thayetpinsaik village, Pegu Division stated that USDP organizers forcefully urged residents of Oakpo, Western Part of Pegu Division, to sign documents promising not to vote for other parties, whilst also distributing USDP member cards to them.
