A resident of Shan State who spoke to Burma Election Tracker said: "Only one or two of the entire household were eligible to vote. We had to make name cards before we could vote. When we wanted to vote we had to go to the polling station and ask for the name cards. That's why I did not vote. Many people in my area do not understand about politics, but they have interest in it. We want to do business peacefully. I don't think this election can change our lives."
This report exemplifies how the voting process is not systematic and is open to manipulation. The lack of verification of voter ID means there is no way of ensuring that there will not be individuals voting twice, voting if they are not eligible, or having someone else fraudulently cast thier vote.
